The Mobile Space
Experts worldwide call the mobile screen the 'Third Screen'
for customers, after Television and Computers. In India, it may
very well be the 'First' or 'Second Screen', given that more
people have access to a mobile phone than the number with access
to a Computer
The numbers. They matter.
Worldwide, it took 12 years to amass the number of mobile subscribers
to the first billion. The second billion subscribers took 2.5
years, and the third significantly less time. [ET, 23 June 2008]
In India, the number of mobile subscribers is slated to boom
from the current 278m to 737m in 2012.

The state of these numbers does matter.
The market is fragmented with a plethora
of devices on different platforms, namely, Symbian, J2ME, BREW,
MacOS (iPhone), and others - each one running different set
of applications with distinct user interface capabilities.

statistics in the Indian mobile scene.
The Opportunity Space
The common problem? The plethora of platforms for applications
to be developed upon and supported, most of which adequate and
consistent development is not feasible at a fast pace. Consumer
brands try to have a presence on all the mobile devices, but
are obstructed by the tedious development and maintenance process
of mobile applications in the current scenario.
